Measure connection without scoring your relationship

Look for moments that feel good to both of you, rather than competing over messages and streaks.

A seven-day streak can be a lovely reminder that you showed up. It cannot tell you whether a conversation felt safe, whether someone was exhausted, or whether an unanswered text arrived during an exam.

Choose feelings before numbers

Ask what “more connected” would actually mean this month. Perhaps you want fewer distracted calls, more shared laughter, or a clear date for the next visit. Choose one aim you can both describe in ordinary language.

Notice a small signal

At your weekly chat, each name a moment that worked and a moment that felt difficult. A shared anime night might have been lovely even if it was your only long call. Count the quality of the experience before the quantity of contact.

Retire the scoreboard

Do not turn read receipts, location updates, or response times into loyalty measures. If a tracker starts arguments, pause it. A missed ritual is a reason to ask what happened, not evidence that one person cares less.

Try together

Write one sentence about how you hope your relationship feels next week. Choose one small action that supports both answers.
