Practical help can feel deeply affectionate when it removes a real burden. It can also feel intrusive when someone takes over a task you wanted to handle yourself. Ask before turning care into action.
Offer something concrete
You might compare travel options, proofread a document if appropriate, or help make a packing list. “Would it help if I did this one thing?” is easier to answer than a broad offer that requires your partner to invent a job for you.
Respect private information
Do not access accounts, contact other people, or make bookings on your partner's behalf without clear permission. Helping with a plan is different from committing them to it. Keep personal documents and sensitive details under their control.
Make help easy to decline
If they say no, believe them. You can offer company or simply wish them well. An act of service should reduce pressure, not create a second task of managing your feelings about whether the help was accepted.
Ask each other for one small practical favor that would genuinely help this week. Be specific about the limits of the task.
