When every call is about catching up, small frustrations can accumulate without a place to land. A regular check-in creates that place, but it should feel like teamwork rather than a review meeting.
Start with something concrete
Each name one moment of connection from the week. It might be a thoughtful message or a date that felt relaxed. Talk about why it worked so you can repeat the useful part, not just praise each other in general terms.
Take one concern at a time
Choose the issue that most needs attention. Describe an event, its effect, and a request. If the topic is too big for the time available, agree on another conversation rather than rushing toward a pretend resolution.
End with an experiment
Pick one change for next week, such as an earlier call or fewer check-in messages during work. Decide when to revisit it. You are testing a routine together, not handing one partner a list of corrections.
Ask: “What should we keep, what should we change, and what can we let go of this week?”
