A shared-goal session with a clear next step

Keep the meeting small enough that it ends in action rather than a growing list of ambitions.

Shared goals can feel exciting until every idea becomes something you are supposedly working toward. Choose a small number and be honest about what you have time to do.

Pick one goal for the week

Describe an outcome you both want, such as choosing dates for a visit or finishing a shared photo page. Avoid goals that depend on changing the other person's personality. A useful goal has a next action you can name.

Write a lightweight plan

Use four fields: outcome, next action, owner, and review date. Add a constraint if it matters, such as cost or available time. Keep the plan in one place rather than repeating it across chats and reminders.

Review effort without blame

At the next session, ask what happened and whether the plan was realistic. Change the task if circumstances changed. Progress is useful information, but a missed goal should not become evidence that one person is less committed.

Try together

Fill in: “This week we want __. I will __. You will __. We will check in on __.”
